Calvados is a beverage that is often enjoyed with coffee, after a dinner, but it can also be drank as an aperitif, in drinks and in between courses.

We are talking about an "apple brandy" and it's made of apples in Normandy in NW France. Apple brandy from anywhere else is not allowed to be called calvados.

For the very best calvados 48 different varieties of apples are used, in general there are over a 100 varieties used for producing calvados.

The apples are first crushed and pressed into a juice, the juice is then fermented into a cidere in oak barrels. At the end the fermented cider is distilled and violá, we have calvados.
